You'll need some time to get used to using the keyboard and mouse to control everything. Like the trucks in the game, the controls are rugged and difficult. You also have different types of truck at your disposal, which you can customize as you gain experience points with extras such as trailers, cranes, larger loads, and fuel tanks. It's very important to explore and see what's out there. Although you have a map to consult, it's not actually all that useful seeing as the game conceals parts of the terrain so that you don't know where to go. Spintires has five different terrains to play through, all around the same level of difficulty, but very different. Some of these monsters use up to 30 liters of fuel per minute! If you run out, you know what to do: call the fuel truck, of course. You also have to control the damage to the vehicle and the amount of gas you use. It's a lot of fun, especially when it takes over half an hour for the second truck to arrive.
You may even end up getting both trucks stuck and having to use a third truck to pull them both out. If things get too difficult, you can always change vehicles and rescue the one that's stuck in the mud (you'll have to do this many times).
Over time, you'll learn how to use the tow cable when you need it, and you can attach the cable to trees to help get you out of any nasty ditches you might get stuck in. You have to drive very carefully not to get stuck, using four-wheel drive and the differential lock properly. Reliability – 3/5 – game may crash when using mods. These trucks, however, require control so close to that of a real truck, that Spintires is one of the best simulators I've tried in a while.Detail – 5/5 – extremely high detail in all of the areas.Graphics usage – 4/5 – not too demanding.
There are plenty of mods available but I don’t think the game needs many mods. In an interview, the developers did say that doing this would be possible.
I think it would be nice if they added more maps but with different terrain like some maps could be full of snow instead of full of mud. I also think a first person view would be nice since the developers classify this game as a simulator. The camera can be annoying at times and I do think there needs to be a front view so it is easier to see what is in front of the truck. The synchronization on the multiplayer needs to be improved. When you are in a really heavy truck, you can see the tires pushing the mud onto one side and if you get stuck on a hill and your tires keep spinning, you will dig into the ground and I think that is really realistic.Īs with everything, there are a few downsides about the game. The best thing I like about this game is the physics. All of the vehicles have a winch attachment so you can attach it onto a tree to get yourself out of the mud. Some of the bigger trucks have attachments like a crane so it is easier to help the truck if it gets stuck. Some of the vehicles are better off exploring the are and uncloaking the area while some of the bigger vehicles are better off transporting the lumber. Not all of the vehicles can be used to move lumber. There are many vehicles that you can use in the game. Once you can see the full map, it is then a lot easier to make a route to transport the lumber using your truck. When you start a map, you have to uncloak the area so you can see it on the “paper” map. The multiplayer does work well but it would be nice if it was better synced with the mud when a truck makes tire tracks.Īt the moment, there are five areas for you to explore in both single player and multiplayer. I got the official game on the release day and the first thing I noticed is that it has multiplayer which I think is really good for a first release. I first looked at videos of the Tech Demo and it looked amazing. The game started off as a Tech Demo which is downloadable on the official Spintires website which is at the bottom of this page.
Spintires is a off road truck simulator made by a small company called OOVEE.
